His warm smile, and Christian leadership as an Elder here at Neelys Bend will be missed by all. The lives he touched will forever be changed.
Richard was born to Frank and Frances Botts in Nashville, Tennessee. He graduated from Isaac Litton High School.
After graduating, he attended David Lipscomb College for a time before marrying his childhood sweetheart Nancy
Morgan. Richard and Nancy met at Chapel Avenue Church of Christ where he grew up, and were married at Eleventh
Street Church of Christ, where she grew up.
They had three children: Sherri, Traci, and Rick. He delighted in them and was always a doting Dad. He was proud
of their education at Goodpasture Christian School, where he served on the President's Board. He loved supporting
the football team and didn't miss a game for many years.
Richard always had a passion for missions. He served on the mission committee at Madison Church of Christ for
many years, He attended Neely's Bend Church of Christ, where he served as an Elder from 2002 until his death.
He cherished his years there and developed many friendships.
He loved to hunt with Rick - they enjoyed several safari trips and always came back with a big story. He loved
traveling and took Nancy on many cruises, visiting all the continents but one. He was and avid reader and
mathematician. He loved sports, especially football, and could give any stats on any team, especially Vanderbilt.
Richard was well known for his kindness and generosity. He loved his God, wife, family, and church. He lived life
well.
Many lives have been forever changed by the friendship, example and the strength that Richard gave to them. He
was a shining example to all who knew him.
