"Truth...Where Is It?"
Last week we explored the worldly notion of "moral relativism." This is to say, there is no absolute truth
but rather good moral decision-making is based upon the situation in which one finds themselves. What is
moral truth for me in this situation might not be moral truth for someone else in their situation.
Continuing our thinking on truth, God says that there is "ABSOLUTE TRUTH"; so, one might pose the question,
"If there is absolute truth in contrast to moral relativism, where do we look for it, how do we find it?"
Well, good moral responsibility has, for centuries, been taught by the church, so to add to the dilemma of
relativism, many teach that all religious disciplines are the same in that they are just different ways to God.
There is a word for this, as well..."pluralism,"...the belief that all religious beliefs are on equal footing.
This is also an absurd idea since the different religious disciplines all teach a different doctrine and practice
in a different manner. If truth is absolute and cannot be changed then this cannot be correct.
So, if I can't get "absolute" truth from just any old religion...where am I to find it? Well, John 1:17 declared,
"the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." In other words, God's grace and
God's TRUTH comes to us through Jesus Christ. That may explain why Jesus used the phrase "I tell you the TRUTH"
repeatedly throughout His ministry.
Jesus said, "I am the way, the TRUTH and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me." Peter declared,
"Salvation is found in none other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by whom we must be saved."
(Acts 4:12) Jesus prayed in John 17:17, "Sanctify them by Your TRUTH, Your word is TRUTH."
More to come...
