"GIVING THANKS!"
Thanksgiving Day is here again. It seems like just a few days ago that I was writing an article for the bulletin of Thanksgiving Day
week, 2012. The passage of time, though, lets us know that we are still blessed with life and for that we are thankful.
As this week progresses, I am quite sure that everyone will remember all the physical things for which they are thankful. They are
many, for sure. But, in all the hustle, turkey, visiting, football, turkey, traveling, cooking, working, turkey, worshipping...(did
I mention turkey); let us not forget to give God thanks for everything. Everything that we have for which we are truly thankful,
we must thank God Almighty!
When we think of all that God has done for us and continues to do, three thoughts come to my mind.
Thanksgiving is the only appropriate response for what God has done for us. - God is our Creator, our Sustainer and our
Redeemer. He needs nothing from us. We need everything
from Him.
Thanksgiving brings about a change of attitude in our lives.
- Thanksgiving leads to humility. Thanksgiving leads to
dependence upon God in prayer. Thanksgiving leads to joy.
Through this we develop an "Attitude of Gratitude."
Thanksgiving spurs us into action for the welfare and benefit of others.
- When we are truly thankful, we want others to have the
same blessings we enjoy. When we want others to have the
same blessing we enjoy, we will work to that end.
Have a great Thanksgiving Day for 2013!
A Psalm of Thanksgiving (Psalms 100).
Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands!
Serve the LORD with gladness;
Come before His presence with singing.
Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the LORD is good;
His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.
