"Stewardship"

Good Stewardship is taught throughout God's word. It is taught in many passages and in various manners, but none more open and telling than in the parable of the talents, in Matthew 25. It begins with, "The kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling in a far country, who called his servants and delivered his goods to them..." Jesus goes on to tell how much he gave to each one of three servants with the largest share going to the last servant. The wealthy landowner went away expecting that something meaningful would be accomplished with the resources with which his servants were entrusted. There were strong words for the servant who failed to use his resources wisely.

It should be noted that the "goods" that were delivered to the servants never became the property of the servants but always remained in the ownership of the wealthy traveler. The owner left with the expectation that the "goods" (talents of money) would be used for the betterment of all concerned.

God, the creator of all things, has entrusted all the resources of the universe into our hands. It should, likewise, be noted that He did not give it to us to own but rather to use. 2 Peter 3 tells us that in the end He will destroy it all. We did not bring anything and we shall not take anything, therefore, everything here belongs to God. What we have is for our use and this includes our abilities and our money.

In order for one to be a good "steward" he must come to terms with this concept of ownership. When Christ went away He did so with the expectation that we would use the resources that were entrusted to us to accomplish good things for His cause. God has given us so much! We can't outdistance God when it comes to giving and serving.! "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him." 1 Cor. 2:9
