"ARE YOU USING YOUR SPECIAL GIFT?"
I do not know of anyone who does not enjoy a gift. We look forward to birthdays, Christmas, Valentine's Day,
Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc. etc. because these are special days that are marked with gift giving. In truth,
we have all received the most precious gift we will ever receive and that is life itself. Along with the gift of
life came some other "special" gift(s). These gifts are our particular talent(s) or capability(ies).
The apostle Peter wrote in 1 Peter 4:10 "As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good
stewards of the manifold grace of God." I believe that every member of the Lord's church, and yes, every other
person, as well, has received a gift(s) from God. These gifts that Peter is writing about are those special
capabilities that God has given to each of us. Everyone is different and everyone has different talents.
Some are able to work with their hands and create things. Others have a unique ability to prepare excellent
food. Still some have a talent for singing, speaking , teaching, comforting, cheering, etc. In verse 11 Peter
said, "If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be
glorified..."
Paul wrote to the Christians in Rome in chapter 12 and verse 1, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies
of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service."
Paul is saying, because of God's great mercy to us, offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God dedicated to His
service and pleasing to Him. This does not mean in mind only. It means to be involved in the work of the
church…serving God, through serving others through the use of the "special" gifts that God has built into each
of us. And by this we glorify our Father.
