"Let Us Never Forget!"
There is little that bears more in support of the Christian and his or her beliefs
than that of the freedom that we enjoy in America. Under many of the world's flags
citizens may not worship in freedom...may not worship in the manner they wish. My prayer
is that American citizens will always enjoy the freedom that has been hard won by so many.
We must never forget that freedom is never free!
On November 19, 1863 President Abraham Lincoln dedicated a part of the Gettysburg
battlefield as a national cemetery where soldiers could be laid to rest. In the dedication
speech, which has become known as the Gettysburg Address, he made this statement: "The world
will little note, nor long remember what we say here; but it can never forget what they did
here." That goes for all the battlefields on which our men and women have fought and died!
Many believe that Memorial Day is for the honoring of any and all dead, and certainly
we should honor those worthy of honor every day, but Memorial Day is set aside, particularly,
to honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. They gave
their lives and more than that one cannot give. Let's give thanks to God for all those who
have sacrificed that we might be free.
Momentum...
Newton's First Law of Motion, paraphrased, states that "an object at rest tends to stay at rest
unless it is acted upon by an external force, and an object set in motion tends to stay in motion
unless it is acted upon by an external force."
I feel that Neely's Bend Church of Christ has some "momentum" going since our Big Day in May
upon which we should capitalize. We have had great attendance and larger contributions
since that day. Let's keep that "MOMENTUM" going. Now is the time to encourage those about
whom you have been thinking to come and worship with you at Neely's Bend: Family, Friends,
Neighbors, Co-Workers. We want to be an object IN MOTION and not an object at rest!
