"MOTHERS AND MEMORIES"

This day has been designated as Mother's Day throughout our nation. There is no doubt that mothers deserve this day of honor in their behalf. Mothers store memories in their children. Abraham Lincoln said, "All that I am, or can be, I owe to my angel mother." Paul said of Timothy, "When I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also," (2 Timothy 1:5). I will always be grateful to my mother for proper teachings, reminders, and good memories during my childhood.

Godly mothers have instilled in us good memories. In order for things to be held in our memory, the purpose must be clear and they must be repeated. I can remember that my mother sometimes got frustrated over having to remind me of something she had already said over and over. Peter recognized this need in new Christians, "For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth," (2 Peter 1:12).

God persuades us to give much attention to "reminders", "…these words which I command you today…teach them diligently to your children…talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up," (Deuteronomy 6:6-7). How many of you have memories of your mother reading Bible stories to you?

Godly mothers help children keep good memories. To retain any kind of knowledge we must keep adding more memories of the same kind. There must be a daily "culturing" of the soul by reading, meditating, prayers, and proper attention to spiritual values.

Godly mothers will help their children use good memories. None of us know what situations will face us as we travel down life's highway, but we are better prepared to meet them because we are able to use what we were taught.

THANK YOU MOTHERS FOR THE WONDERFUL MEMORIES YOU HAVE GIVEN TO HELP US SERVE GOD FAITHFULLY.
