"Living in the Light"
"The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simpleā¦" Psalm 119:130
It is a fact; we need light to guide us; to enable us to go from one place to another. The Word of God is
intended to help us in this regard for Solomon said: "When you roam, they will lead you; when you sleep,
they will keep you; and when you awake, they will speak with you. For the commandment is a lamp, And the
law a light; Reproofs of instruction are the way of life," (Prov. 6:22, 23)
David said: "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." (Psalm 119:105). We have difficulty
walking around in places familiar to us without light, but we are completely lost in places unfamiliar to
us if we have no light. None of us has traveled the road we are now traveling, so we are very much in need
of light on the way to enable us to walk with confidence.
It is also a fact that we are constantly in need of the light that David wrote of in the above mentioned Psalm.
We never get to the place where we can get along without it and be safe. If I turn on the light in one room
of my house, I do not expect that one light to afford sufficient light for me to walk all over the house.
If I turn on the lights of my car for one mile that does not mean that I can travel the rest of my trip
without them. The lights of my car do not throw a beam of light from my home to the point to which I
expect to drive, but they extend far enough to give me direction with confidence, as I go incrementally along.
So the light on the pathway of life does not show me every step of the way from beginning to end at once. Therefore, as I travel along, I will always need to stay in the light that is sufficient to direct me with all confidence. Are you "walking in the light?" 1 John 1:7-9
