"Where Do We Go From Here?"

In the past 53 years there have been 3 cases decided by the U. S. Supreme Court that stand out above all others as, in my view, contributing to the moral decline of our nation. The cases that I am referring to are:

Engel v. Vitale (1962), The U. S. Supreme Court ruled that it is unconstitutional for state officials to compose an official school prayer and encourage its recitation in public schools.

Roe v. Wade, (1973) The U.S. Supreme Court ruled such that resulted in the legalization of abortion.

Obergefell v. Hodges (2015) - The Court held that the recognition and provision of same-sex marriage is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Most Christians (if not all) have been distressed to hear of each of these rulings. The most recent one seems to be just another slip on the slope of moving away from God and His will for His creation. Distressed as we may be, we Christians can do several things right now that will honor God regardless of what is happening around us. Here are some of those things we can do while we continue to take a biblical stand. That is the only "stand" Christians can take.

Pray for our nation - "...if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Stay Focused on Christ - "If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth." (Colossians 3:1-2)

Increase your love and expand your mission - "You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you..." (Matthew 5:43-44)

Learn how to talk to unbelievers about such issues - "…always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear…" (1 Peter 3:15)

Find joy in the struggle - " My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing." (James 1:2-4)

Trust in God - " Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!" 46:10)
