"EVERY MOMENT IS IMPORTANT"

There are 168 hours in a week. We spend about 56 hours sleeping (more or less). Some spend 50 or more hours working on a job and traveling to and from the workplace. We spend approximately 12 hours per week eating. The meals must be prepared, the grass must be cut, the house must be cleaned, the groceries must be purchased, the dog must be cared for, and there is that tee time....How do we do it all in 168 hours? It becomes a matter of priorities.

In 1967, Charles Hummel wrote a little book entitled, "The Tyranny of the Urgent." In it he talks about how we struggle, each day, to take care of the "urgent" things in our lives and never find time for the "really important" things. Really important things, such as, taking the time to mention Jesus to someone, extra hours of Bible study and prayer, calling a sick friend to see how they're feeling or invite that neighbor to join you for worship at Neely's Bend. Our intentions are good but we just can't seem to take advantage of the time we have.

There are 168 hours in a week. How much time do we devote to eternal things? How many of those hours do we give back to the one who gave them to us? Let's resolve to seize the day for Christ. The only way to seize the day for Christ is to take care of the "really important" things first. Jesus said, "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness…" (Matthew 6:33) The urgent things will get done.
