"Just a Little Contamination"
One day a mother was scraping vegetables for a salad as her daughter came to ask permission to go to an "R" rated movie.
"But all the kids are going," she said, "and their folks don't think it will hurt them." As she talked, she saw her mother
pick up a handful of scraps and throw them into the salad. Rather startled, she shouted, "Mother, you are getting the
garbage in the salad." "I know," her mother replied, "but I thought if you didn't mind garbage in your heart and in your
mind that you wouldn't care about a little in your stomach."
Thoughtfully, the girl picked the peelings from the salad and then smiled at her mother. "I guess I'll just tell them I'm
staying at home tonight," she said as she went through the kitchen door."
We know, in this day of awareness, that if we feed our bodied with a bad diet of junk food, that we can cause for ourselves
health issues, such as obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol, digestive problems, heart problems, etc. These things can
lead to all sorts of physical maladies and even premature death. Why would we think that it will be any different if we feed
our (biblical) hearts and minds with a bad diet of junk food. Jesus taught, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall
see God" (Matthew 5:8). When our minds are exposed to evil, our hearts become contaminated...there's just no way around it.
Often, we think that we can separate what we do as entertainment, what we read, what we look at and where we go from who we are.
This is foolish thinking for a very wise man said, "For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he" (Proverbs 23:7). And we think
according to what has been put into our hearts.
We are to "abstain from every form of evil" (1 Thessalonians 5:22). Paul told the Corinthians "Do you not know that a little
leaven leavens the whole lump?" "Just a Little Contamination," is not good!
