"Be Sure...We Must Be Sure"
They thought the Titanic was unsinkable! They thought the double bottom, sixteen watertight compartments could withstand
anything! They thought the ship could float even with some of its bulkheads filled with water! They thought the three
million rivets holding the steel plates together were indestructible! They thought even after the ship had struck an
iceberg that there was no cause for alarm…everything was all right! They thought all was fine and some continued dancing,
enjoying the music, and partying! They thought…BUT THEY WERE WRONG!
The prophet Jeremiah prayed, "OH LORD, I know the way of man is not in himself, it is not in man who walks to direct his
own steps." The New Living Translation renders this passage thusly, "I know, LORD, that a person's life is not his own.
No one is able to plan his own course." Humans are so very fallible and it is so very dangerous for us to proceed on the
basis of our own thinking in matters of life, death and eternity. We need to pray for wisdom and consult the Word of God
daily, for direction in life.
A man struck a match to see if the gas tank was empty...it wasn't!
A man tapped a strange bulldog on the head to see if the critter was affectionate…he wasn't!
A woman speeded up to see if she could beat the train to the crossing…she didn't!
A man touched a wire to see if it had electricity going through it…it did!
A man quit attending the church worship services to see if God really was serious about punishing those who did not serve
Him…HE WAS!
Does anyone not realize the desperate need to be sure about eternal things? No one can stand in final judgment and proclaim,
"But, I thought..." (Fill in the blank) The apostle John wrote in I John 5:13 "These things I have written to you who believe
in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name
of the Son of God." Nevertheless there will be those who will leave their claim on their heavenly home to chance. Jesus said
in Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My
Father in heaven." Just thinking you are saved will not make it so!
BE SURE!
